What is Coworking?

A few things you might like to know about how coworking works and what you might expect to find at Desk Village.

Who else works at Desk Village?

One of the best things about coworking is the wide variety of people you'll meet. One day you might sit next to an entrepreneur trying to bootstrap her first business and the next, someone who works for a huge global organisation. We have members from students to CEOs.

Isn't coworking distracting?

People tell us they get more done in a day at Desk Village than they do in a week at home. The atmosphere is always changing. Sometimes it is quiet and contemplative. Other times there is networking and a bit of banter. Of course, if someone is wearing headphones, that's a signal to leave them in peace.

Do I need to reserve a desk before I come in?

No, just come on in and find a seat. If you'd like to see how many desks are available before you leave home, or want to see if your favourite desk is free, you can send a message in our #membersonly Slack channel and someone will let you know in real time.

Is there a receptionist?

No. Our space isn't big enough to need one, plus any one of our members will say "Hi" and ask if you need help when you walk through the door.

Is there a dress code?

No. Just wear whatever makes you comfortable, happy and productive.

Can I bring my dog with me?

Unfortunately, we do not allow dogs. Don't get us wrong, we're all dog lovers here, but we understand that not everyone is. Our space is not quite large enough to have a bunch of dogs around (as much fun as that might be!)

Can I eat at my desk?

Yes. We have an arrangement with Hampers across the road who have tasty sandwiches, soups, salads, etc. If you send them an email, they will bring lunch right to your desk at 12pm. Of course, you can bring in your own food. We just ask that you don't eat or microwave anything smelly that will affect other people's enjoyment of the space!

Can I temporarily leave my stuff at a desk?

Yes, we just ask that you use common sense. If we're very busy, we might ask that you take your stuff with you. However, 99% of the time it's no problem. Just don't hog a desk for half a day while you're out on client meetings.

Do you have a phone?

Yes, we have fixed phone lines and internet-enabled videophones with Skype, Hangouts and various other apps ready for you to use. These are free for UK calls to non-premium numbers, but we ask you to be sensible with how you use them. Our fixed desk members can also arrange to have their own dedicated phone line set up.

You're also welcome to use your own phone for calls. The reception isn't great in the village on all networks, but you can make WiFi calls from your mobile from anywhere in the office. Please respect others around you when it comes to your volume and use headphones if you're calling from yoru laptop.

Do you have a printer?

Yes. It sits on the WiFi network and is free to use for all members. Please note, this is a perk rather than a feature of your membership. We ask that you don't print out full colour brochures, etc. If you have larger printing requirements, let us know and we'll put you in touch with a local firm.

How much does membership cost?

We have various membership tiers for you to choose from.

Our most popular is the Flexible membership, offering access up to three days a week for £79/mo, or you can join as a Club member for one day a week for £59/mo.

Our Unlimited tier provides 24/7 unlimited access for £109/mo along with various other benefits.

Do you offer dedicated or permanent desks?

Yes. We have a limited number of dedicated desks under our Fixed membership for £229/mo on a minimum 6-month contract. This will be your own desk where you can keep your own equipment, personal belongings, etc. Please contact us if you wish to know more.

When are you open?

Our normal open hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. If you need to work earlier or later, or on the weekends, you can sign up to our Unlimited membership.

Am I contracted for a minimum term?

No, unless you have a Fixed membership. There are standard T&Cs that set expectations for you as a member and us as a coworking provider, but there is no minimum term. You pay month by month. We just ask you give us 30 days notice if you wish to cancel.

Is your internet any good?

Yes! We get just under 60mb download speed and about 20mb upload.

Can I share my membership with a spouse or colleague?

No. Because of the size of our space, we ask that everyone has their own membership. However, if you have a team of two or more people, please ask us about Team membership.

Is my stuff insured while I'm at Desk Village?

No. We ask that you insure your own belongings.

Do you have a secure space to leave equipment?

Yes. We have lockers to rent for just £10/mo. It's yours to use as long as you're a member.

Can I use Desk Village as a mailing address?

Yes. Please contact us for more details.

Is there parking?

There are two car parks in Hurstpierpoint:

  • Brown Twins Road (free parking up to 23 hours) - BN6 9PA

  • Trinity Road (part free parking up to 23 hours, and part free up to 3 hours) - BN6 9SJ

For the 3-hour section drivers must display a reusable disc to show their time of arrival. They’re available for a one-off payment of £1 and can be purchased at:

  • Library or Parish Office - Trinity Road

  • JanTon Newsagents - High Street

  • Charity Shop - Village Garden

  • Coop Store - High Street
